Erysipelas
Description:
Erysipelas is swollen, red rash on the face caused by infection with streptococcalbacteria. The risk rose in patients with open wounds, skin ulcers, minor wounds, skinulcerations, stasis ulcers, and those who have chronic diseases (eg, diabetes, nephroticsyndrome, AIDS, malnutrition).
Symptoms:
- red face, usually glossy appearance, swollen, hot, but no blisters
- Pain
- Fever
- Hot and cold
- Feeling sick in the face
Treatment:
The treatment is done is to rest the patient with head elevated but it can be givenintravenous antibiotics for at least the first 48 hours, followed by oral antibiotics.
